HOUDINI PIPELINE DEVELOPER

 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to Pipeline Leadership, the Houdini Pipeline Developer will be developing tools and workflows to allow FX artists to efficiently move assets from upstream departments into Houdini, and integrate the resulting simulations into final shots. The Houdini Pipeline Developer’s perspective is high level and forward looking. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, partner and implement new and improved technologies, the Houdini Pipeline Developer has advanced skills with Houdini, Python and C++ required for research, development and mentoring others. The Houdini Pipeline Developer will be required to work with FX artists to design and implement tools to effectively move assets between 3DS Max and Houdini, improve the efficiency of our FX workflow, and ensure accurate output in ways that mesh well with current tools and workflows.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and solve complex, systematic problems in the domain of the tools, plug-ins, pipeline and overall workflow development
  • Gather requirements across large collaboration efforts that span multiple departments and/or disciplines
  • Leverage current technology research and development trends to innovate and advance Scanline’s technologies
  • Design, build, and implement prototypes; Debug and QA using common testing platforms with stakeholders
  • Maintain and support created tools; fine-tune and troubleshoot as needed
  • Write Technical Briefs and documentation
  • Partner with Pipeline Management team to identify and schedule tasks
  • Define, communicate and enforce coding standards across teams and projects
  • Mentor other pipeline team members; advise, guide and grow others

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA in Computer Science, or similar discipline (required)
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in VFX, Gaming or other professional Houdini software development
  • Expert knowledge of Houdini
  • Must have knowledge of Alembic and VDB read/write implementations in Max and Houdini
  • Python, PyQt, HScript scripting ability
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Bash/cshell/Linux knowledge
  • Knowledge of render queuing software 
  • Understanding of relational databases and/or SQL
  • Knowledge of Shotgun or asset management a plus
  • Some knowledge of Maya and Nuke a plus
  • Experience with VRay and MaxScript is a plus
  • C/C++ abilities a plus
